It is no news that RRR has won an Oscar. Well, for our generation it is the film that we will tell stories of to our future generation. However path-breaking it may be, one of the top beneficiaries of the film is Netflix.
Needless to say, the platform grabbed the streaming rights of the film in Hindi and it was perhaps the best decision team Netflix India ever took.
The film is undoubtedly one of the most successful ever on the platform. Hats off to the brilliant promotional campaign that continued even after the OTT release of the film. It helped a lot in the Oscar run and views earned by Zee5 and Netflix.
Regardless, it was obvious that the Oscar win will push the film to more views. The same happened after the Golden Globe win. And interestingly, RRR is on the verge of completing one year.
And still, it is reaping views. It was the 7th most watched non-English film globally last week. Which is still better than the debutant Vasthi/Sir on Netflix.
It is also a matter of concern why Netflix originals in India are nowhere near achieving such a feat. However, there doesn’t seem to be a great many efforts by Netflix to fix that.
Anyways, RRR is a win win for RRR which they must be elated about.
