The hot month of May is set to get even hotter. And all because of the massive blockbusters that will premiere on OTT this month. Three streaming platforms, Netflix, Prime Video, ZEE5, have grabbed the streaming rights of the top tier films of 2022.
1. The Kashmir Files – May 13, ZEE5
First off is ‘The Kashmir Files’. The Vivek Agnihotri film is slated to release on ZEE5 on May 13. The Kashmir Files OTT release date comes more than two months after the film’s theatrical release on March 11. The film stars Anupam Kher, Darshan Kumar, Pallavi Joshi, Mithun Chakraborty, among others.
2. RRR – May 20, ZEE5
Next is S S Rajamouli’s super duper Telugu hit, ‘RRR’. The film shattered records across the world, entering the ₹1000 Crore club in a record 16 days. RRR is now slated to release on OTT on May 20, eight weeks after after its theatrical release date on March 24, 2022. RRR in Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam and Kannada versions will release on ZEE5, while RRR in Hindi, English and other foreign languages will release on Netflix. RRR stars Ram Charan, Jr NTR, Ajay Devgn and Alia Bhatt in crucial roles.
KGF Chapter 2 – May 27, Prime Video
Kannada film KGF Chapter 2 proved to be a monstrous hit at the box office. The film reached a box office collection of ₹1000 Crore within 16 days worldwide. KGF Chapter 2 Hindi has also broken numerous records to become the second highest grossing Hindi film of all time. KGF Chapter 2 is tentatively scheduled to release on OTT on around a month and half after its theatrical release. KGF Chapter 2 in Hindi, Kannada, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam are slated to release on Prime Video.
Beast – May 11, Netflix and Sunnxt
Vijay’s Tamil film ‘Beast’ did extremely well in its home state of Tamil Nadu. The box office collections of the Vijay starrer suffered in other states in the country owing to the KGF Chapter 2 rampage. Beast released on OTT on May 11, simultaneously on two platforms – Netflix and Sunnxt.
Attack – May 27, ZEE5
John Abraham’s Hindi film ‘Attack’ did not do too well at the box office. Its box office collections were hampered by the superb run of RRR, which released barely a week before Attack. Attack released in theatres on April 1. The film is now ready to release on OTT this month. Attack premieres on ZEE5 on May 27.
With all of the above, is there any doubt that May is the month of blockbusters on OTT!
