RRR, Pada, Jhund Beat Hollywood Films on Letterboxd 2022 List

2022 has been an exciting year so far for Indian theatrical and OTT releases. Not just in India, several Indian films have also made their way to some international top-rated movies lists including the Auckland based movies centric social platform Letterboxd.

Indian films like S.S. Rajamouli’s period actioner ‘RRR’, the critically acclaimed, low budget Malayalam social thriller ‘Pada’, and Achal Mishra’s mood piece ‘Dhuin’ have outranked many Hollywood and international films on the Letterboxd list. The list comprises the top 50 narrative feature films from 2022 released until now (excluding documentaries).

On the Letterboxd top 50 films list, ‘Pada’ has been placed in the fifth rank while ‘Dhuin’ is in the eighth rank. Interestingly, both these films have outranked the big-ticket blockbuster ‘RRR’, which has secured the eleventh rank on Letterboxd.

And in doing that, ‘RRR’, ‘Pada’, and ‘Dhuin’ have beaten some Hollywood films from 2022 such as the slasher horror flick ‘X’, Richard Linklater’s animated sci-fi movie ‘Apollo 10 1⁄2: A Space Age Childhood’, and the black comedy action movie ‘The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent’ starring Nicolas Cage and Pedro Pascal.

Besides ‘RRR’, ‘Pada’, and ‘Dhuin’, other Indian movies which have made it to the coveted Letterboxd global list are the Malayalam anthology ‘Freedom Fight’, Amitabh Bachchan starrer football drama ‘Jhund’, and the comedy-drama film ‘Badhaai Do’ starring Rajkummar Rao and Bhumi Pednekar.

The highest-ranked 2022 movie on the Letterboxd top 50 movies list has been bagged by the critically acclaimed sci-fi dark comedy movie ‘Everything Everywhere All at Once’. While on the second spot is Matt Reeves’ superhero movie ‘The Batman’ featuring Robert Pattinson in the titular role of the caped crusader.
