There are a whole lot of speculations surrounding Prabhas‘s Radhe Shyam. While the makers are affirming that the film will be releasing in theatres on the 14h of January, there are rumors that the theatrical release prospect is no longer viable, given the Covid situation in other states across India. Now, there are reports claiming that a top OTT platform has offered Rs 350 crores for the direct to OTT rights of Radhe Shyam.
As frantic as it may sound, a direct to OTT release is not the worst thing that can happen to Radhe Shyam now, given the Covid situation. The film has been in the making for over 3 years now and the costs will just keep piling up with every postponement. The makers might well give the OTT release prospect a thought. And that is of course, only if an OTT giant has indeed offered in excess of Rs 300 crores.
ZEE5(south Indian languages) and Netflix (Hindi) are Radhe Shyam’s digital streaming platforms. ZEE had already orchestrated a hybrid release model for Salman Khan’s Radhe. The OTT player might even fancy the chances of giving Radhe Shyam a direct to OTT release on their platform. But they will have to shell out big bucks if they are to achieve the same.
Radhe Shyam is a proper love drama and it needs to be said that the film is better suited for an OTT release as well. If it actually goes the OTT way, it could set a new precedent in Indian cinema. It will be the biggest Indian film to go directly to OTT.
Radhe Shyam is directed by Radha Krishna and it has Prabhas and Pooja Hegde in the female lead roles.
