Runway 34: Ajay Devgn Starrer Endures a Terrible Opening Day

Ajay Devgn’s latest directional, Runway 34, had a poor opening day in terms of box office collections. Despite earning an early positive response, the film struggled a lot on its first day. This scenario has surprised almost everyone in the trade circles. Yes, it doesn’t have a unique premise. But the leading man’s direction and fine performances from Amitabh Bachchan and Rakul Preet Singh end up saving this thriller flick.

Runway 34 has stockpiled Rs. 3 crores only on its opening day. It is the lowest opening an Ajay Devgn starrer has received in the last 12 years. There is no denying that the film is on its way to becoming a box office bomb. To make this matter worse, ongoing theatrical projects like KGF Chapter 2, Jersey, and Heropanti 2 are giving tough competition to the latest Devgn directional. The KGF sequel has shattered several box office records during its historic run. On the other hand, the remaining flicks are also struggling.

The shocking first day of Runway 34 proves the decline in Ajay Devgn’s popularity. Plus, the thriller genre lures only a limited audience in India. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic has made it difficult for filmmakers to properly dispatch their projects.

Devgn has a cameo appearance in the upcoming Rohit Shetty project, Cirkus. The actor is also busy filming the Drishyam sequel, Naam, and Bholaa (Hindi remake of Lokesh Kanagraj’s Kaithi).

Runway 34 starring Ajay Devgn is currently playing in theatres.
