The film hit the theaters on the 14th of April this year and now it is available to watch on rent on Amazon Prime Video Store and BMS Stream.
Russell Crowe plays a devoted priest Father Gabriele Amorth who tries to help a little child with exorcism and carries on with many more. He is the chief exorcist of the Vatican and is determined to stop Satan. The priest gets into many troubles and he has to answer to higher authorities of the church about his actions regarding the cases of exorcism. The film is inspired from Gabrielle’s memoirs An Exorcist Tells His Story and An Exorcist: More Stories. Yes! You guessed right. Gabrielle Amorth is an actual historical figure. Whether his memoirs are true or not is a topic of another debate but the film has already impressed audiences. The Pope’s Exorcist gathered mixed reviews and was a huge box office hit. Even a sequel for the movie was announced a few days ago.
‘The Pope’s Exorcist’ is directed by Julius Avery and stars Russell Crowe in the lead role. It also has actors like Daniel Zovatto, Alex Essoe and Franco Nero in other important roles. The story is written by Michael Petroni, R. Dean McCreary and Chester Hastings and the screenplay is written by Michael Petroni and Evan Spiliotopoulos. Khalid Mohtaseb has done a tremendous job as the cinematographer and the colour pallette of the film is really good. The music for the film is composed by Jed Kurzel.
