Fans were delighted as Netflix revealed the first look of the delayed second season of the hugely popular show – Russian Doll. A few hours ago, Netflix released 4 new images which provided the first peak into the second season of the show.
As confirmed by Netflix, the upcoming season is set 4 years after the events of Season 1. It follows Nadia (Natasha Lyonne) and Alan (Charlie Barnett) on an even more complicated existential adventure as they heal past wounds and discover all the ways time impacts our reality. The official synopsis also mentions that this season finds Nadia and Alan delving deeper into their pasts through an unexpected time portal located in one of Manhattan’s most notorious locations
It seems that the second season of this award-winning comedy is going to delve deeper into the world of time travel. Season 1 of the show, which premiered in 2019, followed Nadia and Alan who were separately caught in a time loop. They died repeatedly, always restarting from the same moment before they died. This American comedy-drama is created by Natasha Lyonne, Leslye Headland, and Amy Poehler.
The first season of the show received 13 Emmy Nominations including Outstanding Comedy Series and Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for Lyonne. The second season of the show was renewed in 2019 itself. However, production got delayed due to the covid 19 outbreak in March 2020.
Lyonne returns to the Emmy-winning series as Nadia along with Barnett reprising his role as Alan Zaveri. Greta Lee (Maxine), Rebecca Henderson (Lizzy) and Elizabeth Ashley (Ruth) will return as well. Season 2 also features newcomers including Annie Murphy, Carolyn Michelle Smith and Sharlto Copley.
The images show Lyonne and Barnett. Barnett seems to have grown a moustache since the events of the first season. Greta Lee, who plays Nadia’s friend Maxine, is shown in an image. They also reveal the first look of the new character played by Annie Murphy of Schitt’s Creek fame. It was confirmed last year that she would be joining the second season cast.
The exact release date is yet to be revealed but the season is expected to be dropped somewhere in April-May 2022. Until then, check out the below images:
