Black Panther helmer Ryan Coogler will develop the upcoming reboot of “The X-Files”, according to Chris Carter, the creator of the original series.
Carter recently appeared in a podcast interview (via Variety) where he made the revelation. During the interview, the creator celebrated the 30th anniversary of the original entry. Additionally, he spilled beans about Coogler’s reboot.
“I just spoke to a young man, Ryan Coogler, who is going to remount ‘The X-Files’ with a diverse cast. So he’s got his work cut out for him, because we covered so much territory,” Carter said.
Representatives of Coogler and 20th Television, the studio behind the original series, are yet to respond to this news. Plus, Carter did not reveal on which network the show would premiere.
The X-files ran on Fox for nine seasons from 1993 to 2002, with 202 episodes. In 2016, the show got revived and received six episodes in its tenth season. Then, it returned with the eleventh season, with ten episodes, a couple of years later.
Coogler is best known for directing two Black Panther movies, the first one (2018) and Wakanda Forever (2022). He gained worldwide recognition with Fruitvale Station (2013), starring Michael B. Jordan.
The original series revolved around a duo of FBI Special Agents Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and Fox Mulder (David Duchovny). They were assigned to solve marginalised and unsolvable cases under the ‘X-Files’. Scully is a medical doctor and skeptic assigned to verify and analyse Mulder’s discoveries as a conspiracy theorist, apart from being a highly-skilled criminal profiler. In addition, he believes in supernatural stuff. Stay tuned for more updates.
