When the real life serial killers were all getting their own documentaries, the talented Ryan Murphy decides to make a whole series based on the life of one of the most notorious killers out there. Yes, Ryan Murphy is bringing the story of Jeffrey Dahmer to Netflix with a series titled, “Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” to be co-created by Ryan Murphy and Ian Brennan. Evan Peters from American Horror Story fame has been roped in to play the titular role of Jeffrey Dahmer.
The limited series has already casted Niecy Nash, Penelope Ann Miller, Shaun J. Brown, Colin Ford and Richard Jenkins in significant roles. The series as the name suggests follows the life story of Jeffrey Dahmer, one of America’s most notorious serial killers whose activities spanned a period of almost 13 years till the time of his arrest.
Jeffrey’s life story has already been filmed and brought to the screens before. Jeremy Renner, Carl Crew, Rusty Sneary and Ross Lynch have already portrayed Dahmer in earlier movies. Though all of those movies had one thing in common- it all showed how he carried on with his gory crimes and were more or less sensationalized. While, this apparently is not the aim for the latest limited series.
Ryan Murphy plans to give the series a different meaning altogether. The series will be more of a psychological thriller. It will explore the fact how a man went on to commit such crimes for such a long period, with each time getting arrested for suspicious behaviours but later getting released.
It will tap into the “white supremacy” factors too, as it has been stated by people that Dahmer used to get away from the eyes of the police, courts and judges just because he looked like a “polished white man”. Known as the Milwaukee Monster or the Milwaukee Cannibal, Jeffrey used to prey on his victims who were mostly people of color.
Dahmer murdered and dismembered 17 men and boys from 1978-1991, many of them were recorded to be underage. Most of the murders also involved necrophilia, cannibalism and the preservation of body parts. He was later convicted of 16 murders and after two years of his imprisonment he was beaten to death by another inmate.
