Fans of Stephen King’s seminal 1975 work ‘Salem’s Lot’ are a relieved lot. The movie that has been in limbo for the longest time has finally got an encouraging update. Warner Bros. Discovery announced today that the ‘Salem’s Lot’ remake film has been moved from a theatrical release and shifted to a streaming release on Max. No release date has been revealed for Salem’s Lot on Max yet. Speculations indicate that the film might release on Max by the end of the year.
While horror film buffs would have loved to watch the new iteration of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot in the theatres, they’re still glad that Warner Bros. Discovery has not shelved the film altogether. The movie is being produced by Warner Bros. Discovery owned production company, New Line Cinema.
The New Line Cinema film was to release in theatres back in 2022. After being delayed multiple times in the midst of the pandemic, most trade pundits speculated that Warner Bros. Discovery will ultimately shelve Salem’s Lot, just like they did with the Batgirl and Coyote vs Acme films. Both films were written off by Warner Bros. Discovery despite being complete and ready for release.
Horror films fans, though not too overjoyed by the streaming release of Salem’s Lot, are at least glad that the film will stream on Max and has not been shelved altogether. This is the first film adaptation of Stephen King’s Salem’s Lot. The book has twice been adapted into television miniseries earlier.
New Line’s Salem’s Lot is written and directed by Gary Dauberman, writer of the ‘It’ and ‘Annabelle’ films, and director of ‘Annabelle Comes Home’. The story follows an author who returns to his hometown, but soon discovers that the people in his towns are slowly turning into vampires for unknown reasons.
Lewis Pullman (Top Gun: Maverick) stars as the author. The rest of the cast comprises Makenzie Leigh, Alfre Woodard, John Benjamin Hickey, Bill Camp, Jordan Preston Carter and Pilou Asbaek.
