Just a few weeks after news of Marvel Studios postponing ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’ from March 2022 to 6th May 2022, the eagerly anticipated sequel is heading towards major reshoots as per a recent report by The Hollywood Reporter.
The report further states that the new shooting schedule will include both additional photography and significant reshoots in Los Angeles. The new shoot will take place over a period of at least six weeks at a grueling rate of six days per week schedule.
It was also revealed that the film’s director Sam Raimi and head writer Michael Waldron are still associated with the new shooting schedule. The new shoot will certainly include the film’s lead actor Benedict Cumberbatch, although names of other actors for the reshoot are currently not known.
The apparent reasons for the new shooting schedule include pandemic-related concerns and the availability of actors. However, considering the six-week-long minimum shoot period, which is ‘like a whole other movie’ as per a source, speculations are bound to be there.
Marvel enthusiasts are all amped-up about ‘Doctor Strange and the Multiverse of Madness’. Firstly, because the sequel brings back legendary ‘Evil Dead’ director Sam Raimi into the superhero genre after the acclaimed ‘Spider-Man’ trilogy starring Tobey Maguire as the adorable web-slinger. And secondly, because the film’s story further delves into the intriguing multiverse concept.
Sam Raimi’s ‘Doctor Strange’ sequel was being surmised as MCU’s maiden venture into the superhero horror territory. And Sam Raimi seemed to be the perfect choice to helm the project as the filmmaker has substantial experience of directing movies of both the superhero and the horror genres.
Under the ambit of MCU’s Phase 4, ‘Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness’ would ostensibly take place after the events of ‘Avengers: Endgame’, ‘WandaVision’, and ‘Loki’ first season. Besides, of course, Benedict Cumberbatch, the sequel will also see Elizabeth Olsen and Rachael McAdams reprise their roles of Wanda Maximoff/Scarlet Witch and Christine Palmer respectively.
