The Secret Invasion star, Samuel L. Jackson, has joined the death-row drama, Last Meals, alongside the Narcos and The Sandman fame, Boyd Holbrook.
Jackson will portray the character of Walter, a chef working in a high-security prison, cooking last meals for inmates awaiting execution on death row. He previously worked at the White House. However, his career faced a significant downfall, and he ended up working at the prison. There, he encounters Reed (Holbrook), who goes on a hunger strike under Walter’s watch. Soon, these two men forge an unexpected connection between themselves. This newly established bond enables Walter to learn about Reed’s perspectives and innermost depths, who is ready to sacrifice his last pleasurable experience to prove his innocence.
The forthcoming prison drama will be helmed by Andrew Levitas, best known for his work on Amy Adams’ Lullaby and Johnny Depp’s Minamata. On the other hand, the film’s script has been written by Justin Piasecki, whose crime thriller spec script, Stakehorse, got recently picked up by Amazon in a heated bidding contest.
Oscar-winning actor Morgan Freeman is one of Last Meals’ producers, along with Michael McKay, Renee Tab, Lori McCreary, Gary Lucchesi, and Christopher Tuffin.
Samuel L. Jackson has also led the Disney+ series, Secret Invasion, scheduled to premiere on June 21. Stay tuned for more updates.
