Dinesh Vijan has started working on his much anticipated dream project of creating a horror universe. The universe, which began with the Rajkummar Rao and Shraddha Kapoor starrer ‘Stree’ will be having three more movies into it. ‘Munjha’ is among those three movies and probably the most important one at that. This is because, Munjha is said to be the prequel of the blockbuster ‘Stree’. And to play the lead role in ‘Munjha’, Sanjana Sanghi has been roped in by the makers.
The actress last featured in Dil Bechara along with Late Sushant Singh Rajput. The actress received positive reviews for her performance in the movie. While ‘Munjha’ is probably going to be in the horror comedy genre, Sanghi is has done films in comedy genre as well. Reportedly the role for offered to Alia Bhatt as well, but she wasn’t keen on doing the film due to multiple heroines in the universe.
Talking about the horror-verse of Dinesh Vijan, the other movies along with Munjha and Stree have been announced already. ‘Roohi’ is slated to arrive on 11th March 2021. The movie features Rajkummar Rao, Janhvi Kapoor and Varun Sharma in the lead roles. Another movie in the horror-verse is Varun Dhawan and Kriti Sanon starrer ‘Bhediya’ which will be arriving in 2022.
Only ‘Munjha’ will have some sort of direct connection with Stree and the rest of the two movies are going to be standalone features while sharing the same world. But that doesn’t mean that ‘Munjha’ will only be a prequel, it actually will have its own identity and complexity like any other movie.
The basic idea behind creating standalone movies with different lead characters is to make them familiar with the audience. Vijan is planning to familiarise the characters’ story beforehand so that when all the characters crosses path with each other at some point of time in the future, it won’t seem out of the blue.
Sriram Raghavan’s assistant director in Andhadhun – Yogesh Chandekar will be helming ‘Munjha’. The script of the movie has been written by Yogesh himself and Amar Kaushik will be serving as the creative producer. Kaushik previously directed Stree and now is working on Bhediya.
