Sasha Baron Cohen’s ‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm’ Snares A Guinness World Record!

Sacha Baron Cohen’s ‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm’ has snared a Guinness World Record; and you’ll be surprised at the reason why. The satirical film has been nominated for two Oscars at the Academy Awards for 2021 – in the Best Actress in a Supporting Role and Best Writing (Adapted Screenplay) categories. It’s Oscars nominations makes it the film with the longest title ever to be nominated for the Academy Awards.

For those not in the know, the full title of Sacha Baron Cohen’s film is not ‘Borat Subsequent Moviefilm’. It is a mouthful. The full title of the film is “Borat Subsequent Moviefilm: Delivery of Prodigious Bribe to American Regime for Make Benefit Once Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan”. This makes it 127 characters in the title, with spaces, and 110 characters, without spaces. It’s quite obvious why the film is referred to with its popular title – Borat Subsequent Moviefilm.

It is indeed a portentous win for the film, maybe a harbinger of better things for the film at the Oscars.

The previous owner of the Guinness World Record for longest title for a film nominated for an Oscar was “Those Magnificent Men in Their Flying Machines or How I Flew from London to Paris in 25 hours 11 minutes”, which had 104 characters in its title, with spaces, and 85 characters, without spaces. The film failed to win an Oscar that year. If Borat Subsequent Moviefilm wins an Oscar this year, it will hold a double Guinness World Record for the film with the longest title to win an Academy Award.
