“The game continues.”
The announcement caption was enough to hook you up, as the franchise goes on to entertain the fans, and this time, Lionsgate wants to play one more game. This year, Saw had its 10th installment in September, and they are planning to repeat the event.
Though, through the years, they set up the trend of targeting an October release, Lionsgate is breaking the trend with consecutive films.
Now you might ask, why continue the franchise?
Saw is actually one of the most profitable franchises, with low production costs followed by high profits. Even the latest installment just had a $13M price tag but managed to gross $107M during its theatrical run.
Though there were some clouds of uncertainty surrounding the future of the franchise, it ended with a bright red sun.
Director Kevin Greutert, from Saw X, expressed uncertainty about future movies, emphasizing a farewell to Tobin Bell’s Jigsaw. In an interview with THR, Greutert stated, “There are so many directions we could go, but for me, there’s no obvious one coming out of this film. I really wanted it to feel like a kind of final send-off for the Jigsaw character, but never say never.”
Also, the resurgence of the horror genre with successes such as Five Nights At Freddy’s had a plethora of franchises nodding toward certain sequels, and Saw became one of the front runners indeed.
Saw XI, as of now, has a release date of September 27th, just nine months from now on. To get such updates, tune into Binged.
