With the pretty unpredictable chain of events, Scream 7’s recent happenings are so interesting that you could make a movie out of them. The film is now suffering from the unlucky seven syndrome after losing two of its crucial faces.
Spyglass, the film’s producer, fired Melissa Barrera due to antisemitic social media posts regarding the Israel-Hamas conflict.
This decision followed Jenna Ortega’s departure, attributed to scheduling conflicts with “Wednesday” Season 2. The actresses, who portray sisters in the films, are both affected by these developments.
Now, the removal of Barrera sparked intense backlash, prompting director Christopher Landon to express dissatisfaction, claiming it wasn’t his decision. Plans for the sequel were already undergoing changes before Barrera’s exit, attributed to Jenna Ortega’s departure.
Despite initial hopes for Ortega’s cameo, conflicting sources now suggest she was never considered for the new film. The situation raised concerns about the sequel’s stability among fans.
James Vanderbilt and Guy Busick, the main two writers of the latest couple of installments, will create a fresh draft from scratch. Reports are coming in that they will be in search of new protagonists.
Neve Campbell and Courteney Cox will possibly make their returns as the franchise is not in the mud. But again, there are no official statements about the new faces that might join the franchise as Spyglass tries to build their castle from scratch.
The movie might be targeting a 2025 release, but working from scratch might push it back a bit.
