While the debate of censorship for OTT content is going on, the OTT players started editing the content currently in accordance with their objectives. Dhanush’s Jagame Thandhiram will have its Netflix premiere on June 18th. The team had a Twitter spaces session last night. In the session director, Karthik Subbaraj has revealed that the movie will have a TV Premiere two months after the Digital Premiere. Vijay TV has procured the satellite rights of Jagame Thandhiram.
He also revealed that two songs of the movie were edited out for the Netflix version but the songs will be present in the Television version. “Netflix has a format in place. We have removed those two songs as the audiences for the platform are all over the world”, said Karthik Subbaraj.
Telugu film, Ek Mini Katha has also skipped its theatrical release and landed up on Amazon Prime Video recently. The OTT giant also asked the makers to do away with a couple of scenes from the movie. Regional Telugu OTT platform, Aha Video re-edited its Chaavu Kaburu Challaga after taking the feedback of the audience from its theatrical release. The re-edited version has received a better response.
So, the OTT players have started scrutinizing the content which is not in-house production. These changes are more in accordance to the convenience and tastes of the audience. This may be a norm in the OTT space going forward. We may even have separate versions for theater, television, and OTT in the coming days.
