The world is just days away now from the highly anticipated Marvel’s “Black Widow” movie. Black Widow, recently opened up to critics and overall, the movie has got great reviews, and seeing all these, fans can’t keep calm. Ever since Black Widow’s appearance in the MCU with Scarlett Johansson leading the role, fans have dearly loved the character and wanted to know more about it and her secret past. Marvel’s Black Widow will finally bring some answers to her past to the fans if not all.
The movie is set between the timeline of Captain America: Civil War and Avengers: Infinity War. The movie is set to introduce various new characters like Natasha Romanoff’s sister, Yelena, who is a badass just like her sister, David Harbour’s “Red Guardian” and the infamous Taskmaster. The premise of the movie is still pretty much unknown, but if reviews are to be seen one can expect a lot of story along with actions involved in this movie.
But, there’s one thing that’s literally been around in everyone’s head and that is the fact that will Black Widow not have any more sequels? Will this be the only movie? Will this be enough to tell her entire story? Well, to these questions, we might have an answer as director Cate Shortland teases about a sequel of the movie. First of all, everyone knows Marvel is unexpected, it all depends on them whether they would want a movie or not and see what the fans want.
Given how big of a character Black Widow has turned out to be, ever since she was introduced 10 years ago into the MCU, Marvel definitely would want to give her the justice she deserves. Also, the movie’s success will bring out further decisions as to what can be done with future sequels. Marvel knows this time the number won’t speak as Covid-19 has still not receded, so they are patiently waiting for how the fans react to the movie, however they watch it.
Cate Shortland has said that there could possibly be a sequel and that it isn’t out of the question. Yes, one thing’s right though, that we might not see Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow anymore as she met her untimely death in Avengers: Endgame, and also the “Black Widow” movie is set as a prequel. Given all these, if a Black Widow sequel is created, it is definitely going to be a different character that takes on the mantle of Black Widow.
The most preferred character to take on the mantle would definitely be Yelena Belova, played by Florence Pugh. She will definitely be making her first appearance with the Black Widow movie but she is already locked in for another Marvel project, which is Marvel’s “Hawkeye”. Not only because of all these, but even in the comics she takes on the codename of Black Widow and has worked for S.H.I.E.L.D, like Natasha. Also at one point, Yelena worked for HYDRA and Vanguard in the comics.
Given how both Natasha and Yelena were trained in the Red Room to be spies and assassins, this possibility of seeing Yelena as the new Black Widow is very much a possibility. She is equally amazing like her sister and definitely fans will love her given how she is almost similar to Natasha and also how she is. But all of these also depend on how her fate turns out to be in the movie.
Whatever may it be, fans will definitely want more of Black Widow. It is very sure that no one can replace Natasha as Black Widow, but how Sam Wilson won the hearts of fans as the new Captain America, maybe we can have a new Black Widow too.
