A criminally underrated superhero horror movie came out in 2019 which some of you might not have even seen. It was produced by ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ helmer and DC Studios Co-Chairman and co-CEO James Gunn. We are talking about the movie ‘Brightburn’.
And in an exciting update for admirers of the superhero / horror genre and for ‘Brightburn’ fans, the movie’s sequel, that is, a potential ‘Brightburn 2’ is reportedly in the works now. And there’s a massive potential for not just a sequel but to make ‘Brightburn’ a full-fledged franchise, considering the first film’s plot and climactic events.
A superhero / supervillain horror genre movie is a rare blend and ‘Brightburn’ was a classic example of that. The film starts off with the arrival of a mysterious child (played by Jackson A. Dunn) from another world who crash lands on Earth in a place called Brightburn in Kansas where he is adopted by a childless couple (played by Elizabeth Banks and David Denman).
The premise so far sounds like another Superman-ish story right? But the narrative drifts into a much darker film because the boy Brandon does not turn out to be quite the hero the audience roots for. Because after Brandon discovers his incredible superhuman powers, he begins to use them to control the world around him. And now, his adoptive mother must find his weakness to be the only hope for mankind. So, in short, ‘Brightburn’ was about a scenario where an evil Superman arrives on Earth and tries to dominate the world. Dark yet intriguing!
The 2019 film ‘Brightburn’ is streaming in India on the Netflix OTT platform. You should watch it in case you still haven’t, especially fans of the superhero / horror genre. Watch the trailer below to get a better idea. Stay tuned to Binged for the latest updates on the ‘Brightburn’ sequel.
