Here is some good news for Indians to rejoice. An Indian film has been selected for competition for the Kim Jiseok Award in the 2024 Busan Film Festival. And it is the sequel to the 2017 film ‘Village Rockstars’.
Rima Das, the director of the first movie has directed ‘Village Rockstars 2’ as well. The 2017 film was selected for India’s entry in the 91st Academy Awards. It won multiple prestigious awards and was screened in many international film festivals. The movie told the story of a 10 year old girl in rural Assam who wants to be a rockstar. Dhunu, the girl, dreams of having a guitar of her own. But society and people do not seem to be in favour of Dhunu’s passion. Dhunu’s band of make friends and her widowed mother help her with whatever they can but it gets difficult for her to have such high hopes and continue to dream on.
It is a matter of great pride that the movie is selected in such a prestigious film festival. But it is at the same time sad that no other Indian film is there in the same category. Roma Das has impressed audiences time and again with wonderful independent stories like ‘Village Rockstars’, ‘Bulbul Can Sing’ and ‘Tora’s Husband’. Hopefully ‘Village Rockstars 2’ too will be loved by critics and audiences.
However, there is still no News about what the the plot will be and whether same actors will return for the movie or not.
