A few months back it was being speculated that Taapsee Pannu’s upcoming sports film ‘Shabaash Mithu’ might release directly on an OTT platform owing to the pandemic situation. However, it was later announced that the film is all set to release in theatres on 15th July 2022. And now, the official trailer for ‘Shabaash Mithu’, which was released earlier today, is indicating that the makers did right by not opting for the OTT route as the film ostensibly deserves to be watched on the big screen.
As you might already be aware that in ‘Shabaash Mithu’, talented actress Taapsee Pannu is essaying the role of former women’s Indian National cricket team captain Mithali Raj, who had led India to the finals of the 2017 Women’s Cricket World Cup. The film also features Vijay Raaz as Mithali Raj’s mentor/guide and Mumtaz Sorcar as Jhulan Goswami, amongst other cast members. The biopic film has been directed by Srijit Mukherji.
‘Shabaash Mithu’ trailer gives a gripping glimpse of the life story of Mithali Raj, one of the greatest Indian cricketers of all time and, as the tagline suggests, the story of her spirit, her passion, her courage, and her dreams. The film’s trailer portrays the protagonist’s struggles which she had to endure right from her childhood. From being reprimanded for catching a cricket ball, to fighting with the authorities for proper facilities for the women’s cricket team like the men in blue, her first steps into professional cricket, her training and finally making it big in the world of cricket. The trailer ends with a reporter asking her the question: ‘Who is your favorite male cricketer?’ The emotional graph of the trailer is spot on.
Besides ‘Shabaash Mithu’, Taapsee Pannu’s forthcoming films include Anurag Kashyap’s ‘Dobaaraa’, Ajay Bahl’s ‘Blurr’, ‘Who Ladki Hai Kahan’, and Rajkumar Hirani’s ‘Dunki’ co-starring Shah Rukh Khan, amongst other projects. ‘Shabaash Mithu’ will release in theatres on 15th July, however, as of now, there has not been any official announcement related to the film’s OTT release date and platform.
