Troubles are far from over for Yash Raj Films! The opening day collection of Ranbir Kapoor’s highly-anticipated Shamshera is nothing except disappointing. No doubt that the movie’s mixed-to-negative critical reception is badly affecting its box office performance. The latest Karan Malhotra directional is on the verge of becoming YRF’s third flop this year after Samrat Prithviraj and Jayeshbhai Jordaar.
Shamshera managed to collect only 10.25 crores on Day 1, even lower than Samrat Prithviraj (10.7 crores). It is not a great opening figure considering the film’s 150-crore budget. According to Taran Adarsh, the film scored the fifth highest box office opening for any Bollywood project in 2022. Kartik Aaryan’s Bhool Bhulaiyaa 2 ranks first on the list with opening figures of 14.11 crores.

Box Office India has revealed that the film has underperformed in big cities. The latest YRF project is currently playing in over 4,000 theatres, emerging as the second biggest theatrical release in the post-pandemic era. Its “way too low” opening figures prove that the film is heading towards a major financial disappointment.
Another prominent analyst, Komal Nahta, tweeted that Shamshera has thrown the Hindi film trade “into a state of panic”.
“Another big film… but the same story continues! Shows of Shamshera in the morning and noon/afternoon at some cinemas cancelled due to absence of audience,” Nahta added.
Hrithik Roshan and Tiger Shroff starrer ‘War’ was YRF’s last big blockbuster, released in 2019. Additionally, the studio has played a big gamble with Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Salman Khan’s Tiger 3. Will these movies aid YRF in getting rid of its miseries? Only time will tell us.
