Director Shankar is in the news again; for all the wrong reasons. Just a few days ago as Producer V Ravichandran took the legal steps against Shankar over Anniyan’s Hindi remake, now Madras High Court steps in to the Shankar-Lyca Productions rift concerning Kamal Haasan’s upcoming magnum opus ‘Indian 2’.
‘Indian 2‘ was in the buzz for the last few days as Lyca Productions filed a petition with Madras High Court to restrict Shankar from working on other films before completing ‘Indian 2’. The production of ‘Indian 2’ first came into the news when a massive crane crashed on the sets claiming lives of three people in February 2020 and the shooting got halted in the following month due to the lock-down in the country.
But the problem continued to grow for the film when the government started allowing the shootings, but Shankar didn’t resume the ‘Indian 2’ Productions as Lyca Productions decided to bring down the cost of the film further, after reducing the budget from ₹400 crore to ₹220 crore after their first disagreement. Shankar reportedly felt that it would be very hard to make the film as he has envisioned with further budget cuts.
Now things got nastier when Lyca Productions approached Madras High Court when very recently Shankar announced two new projects, with Telugu star Ram Charan and Anniyan Hindi remake with Ranveer Singh, amidst the ‘Indian 2’ controversy.
Now Madras High Court has stepped in and asked Shankar as well as Lyca Productions to sort things out in a peaceful manner and adjourned the case till 28th April, 2021.
Furthermore, ‘Indian 2’ is the sequel of 1996 Kamal Haasan vigilante blockbuster Indian which has gained a cult following over the years. Now apart from Kamal Haasan, ‘Indian 2’ has a stellar cast including ensemble cast that includes Kajal Aggarwal, Siddharth, Rakul Preet Singh, Bobby Simhaa, Priya Bhavani Shankar, Nedumudi Venu and Delhi Ganesh.
With all the controversies looming around the production and also with the passing away of actor Vivek who was supposed to be in the film, the fans can only hope that the film doesn’t get postponed further as Shankar earlier mentioned that 80% of the shooting is already completed.
