We had earlier informed our readers that Sony TV and SonyLIV, the streaming arm of Sony Pictures India, are bringing the Indian edition of the popular American business reality show, Shark Tank to India. Now, even aspiring entrepreneurs in India will have the ultimate avenue to make their entrepreneurial dreams come true. Just like their counterparts in the US, ‘Shark Tank India’ will give young Indian entrepreneurs a chance to bring their business ideas to reality. Now, SonyLIV has also announced a release date for Shark Tank India. The business reality show will premiere on Sony TV and SonyLIV on 20th December, 2021.
Sony Pictures had earlier invited young Indian entrepreneurs with a workable business idea to send in their applications for a chance to feature on the show. The entrepreneurs make business presentations before a panel of five investors or “Sharks”. Based on the innovativeness, workability, feasibility and commercial value of their ideas, the Sharks decide whether to invest in the companies of the applicants.
Over the years, prominent and successful entrepreneurs have played mentors, or rather “Sharks”, on Shark Tank. Robert Herjavec and Kevin O’Leary, Mark Cuban, Steve Tisch, Richard Branson, John Paul DeJoria are some of the businessmen who appeared on the show as Sharks. A number of businesses from aspiring entrepreneurs got off the ground after appearing on Shark Tank.
The first season of Shark Tank India has brought together some of India’s top business founders as ‘Sharks’. It will feature multimillionaire business honchos, Anupam Mittal, founder of Shaadi.com; Aman Gupta, founder of boAT; Namita Thapar, executive director of Emcure Pharmaceuticals; Peyush Bansal, founder of Lenskart; Ashneer Grover, founder of BharatPe; Vineeta Singh, founder of Sugar Cosmetics; and Ghazal Alagh, founder of MamaEarth.
Shark Tank comes to India almost 11 years after its US debut. The first ever episode of Shark Tank aired on 9th August 2009 on the ABC network on US television. The show is now in its 12th season in the US.
Shark Tank India is produced by StudioNext, and will stream on SonyLIV and air on Sony TV from 20th December.
