A special warning for the fans of The Incredible Hulk (2008)! Guys, your hearts may shatter after watching the latest episode of She-Hulk, especially if you loved Abomination’s uncontrollable and ruthless persona in that film.
Episode 7 felt like a blend of odd therapeutic sessions (of course, with forced humour) and Jennifer Walters’ love life problems. From where should we start the proceedings? How about we throw some light on Emil Blonsky’s therapy sessions first?
We saw Jen meeting Josh at Lulu’s wedding in the last episode. The former gets impressed at Josh’s interest in the real Jen, not in She-Hulk. She goes on several dates with “the man of her dreams”, at least that’s what she thought about him. But her short-spanned relationship comes to an end after Josh abruptly stops replying to her messages. Meanwhile, she receives a call from Blonsky’s parole officer. He informs her that Blonsky’s inhibitor is damaged. That device stops him from turning himself into Abomination.
Jen and the parole officer drop a visit to Blonsky’s meditation retreat. The latter fixes his inhibitor and quickly departs from there. On the other hand, the duo of Man-Bull and El Aguila damages Jen’s car. This scenario forces her to stay at the retreat until the arrival of a tow truck. The absence of Wi-Fi or any network connection further annoys her as she desperately waits for Josh’s reply. She accidentally enters one of Blonsky’s therapy sessions, consisting of Man-bull, El Aguila, Porcupine, Saracen, and Wrecker of the Wrecking Crew. Yes, Wrecker! It is okay if you don’t remember the guy (tbh, the guy who wrote this article also forgot him). But thanks to the makers, they inform us that he was one of the guys who tried to take She-Hulk’s blood with the help of stolen Asgardian construction tools in the second episode.
All the guys in the therapy session convince Jen to delete Josh’s number and let go of her feelings. Walters leaves the retreat and advises Blonsky to get a Wi-Fi connection. A quick flashback scene shows Josh secretly stealing a sample of Jen’s blood for ‘HulkKing’.
Episode 7 feels more like a filler episode rather than being a crucial part of the overall series. Some fans might have loved the group therapy scene. But like it or not, the show would have done just fine without it. Although, it looks like we finally have got our big baddie, ‘HulkKing’. His real identity will get revealed in the upcoming episodes.
However, we cannot ignore that the She-Hulk series is kind of juggling too many subplots. Just think about it. Will Wong appear in the last two episodes? If he does appear, then how will he aid Jennifer? And what about Titania? Will she cause problems for Jen and make her life worse than it already is? And most importantly, how does Matt Murdock (Daredevil) fit in this series? We know it is a hard pill to swallow, but ‘The Devil of the Hell’s Kitchen’ is one of the main reasons why MCU fans are watching this show. Also, will Abomination provide some aid to Jennifer, considering their newly developed bond of friendship or whatever the hell that is? At last, who is this HulkKing? What does he want from Jen’s blood?
It looks like the series is heading towards a rushed or overstuffed finale, considering all the above-mentioned things, the per-episode runtime of the show (excluding the end credits) and the number of episodes left. Yup, it is the same problem that has plagued almost every MCU show in the past.
