Shehnaaz Gill has arrived and made history! Punjabi film ‘Honsla Rakh’ that marks her acting debut has broken records to emerge as the highest Punjabi film opening of all time! The romantic comedy directed by Amarjit Singh Saron, also starring Diljit Dosanjh and Sonam Bajwa in lead roles, hit screens on 15th October, for the occasion of Dussehra. ‘Honsla Rakh’, that had been the talk of the town since its inception, especially due to the immense popularity of lead actress Shehnaaz Gill has passed with flying colours.
‘Honsla Rakh’ has got the highest opening for Punjabi film in history with a net collections of 2.55 crores all over India, beating the previous record of 2.43 crores of the earlier released Diljit Dosanjh-Neeru Bajwa starrer, ‘Shadaa’. The collections of ‘Honsla Rakh’ in Delhi and UP smashed records by a mile! The film has reportedly collected 66 lakhs in Delhi & UP, which is almost double of what has been seen earlier for Punjabi cinema, including films released before the pandemic. It is noteworthy however, that ‘Honsla Rakh’ got such a release and a huge number of screens, being a Punjabi film, where they ordinarily have to compete with other Bollywood releases too.
‘Honsla Rakh’ also marks the debut of Diljit Dosanjh as producer and was filmed in Canada entirely during the lockdown. Sadly, the makers lost some precious time to market the film due to the sad, untimely demise of actress Shehnaaz’s partner, actor Siddharth Shukla. However, fans of leading lady Shehnaaz took it upon themselves to perform the task and promoted the film left, right and center on social media, as a result of which the film had been trending for days on end.
Shehnaaz Gill, most known and loved for her stint in ‘Bigg Boss 13′ has charmed her way into the hearts of millions of fans in India and overseas. Post Siddharth Shukla’s demise, the actress hadn’t made an appearance for a month and only came out to promote the film in the last few days leading up to its release. Her fans should surely be credited for their part in the film’s success, since the movie looks like a sure shot blockbuster and is expected to see a good first week run at the box office. Here’s hoping ‘Honsla Rakh’ has a profitable run and does wonders for Shehnaaz’s career.
