Indian filmmakers are trying to make an attempt to create a universe somewhat akin to DC and Marvel. In terms of success, Shetty’s CopVerse is indeed one of the most successful universes in recent times.
As of now, the universe has three main cops – Singham, Simmba, and Sooryavanshi – making appearances in four movies, with the fifth one hitting the market in 2024, completing the Singham trilogy. Currently, the Indian Police Force is the center of attention, featuring some big names.
While some might question the entertainment quality of the ongoing CopVerse, there is a more serious issue at hand – how scattered is CopVerse?
The first movie of the universe, Singham, is currently streaming on Prime Video. As for the second installment, Singham Returns, it is also available on Prime Video, and additionally, Hotstar and JioCinema are offering it for free.
However, the confusion intensifies when transitioning to the new franchise. Simba, starring Ranveer Singh, is streaming on Zee5, one of the less popular OTT platforms in the Indian diaspora, mainly known for its Zee TV channels.
The complexity doesn’t end there; Sooryavanshi has opted for Netflix as its streaming platform. Without any surprise, the Indian Police Force opted for prime video and made the whole scenario for confused for the fans.
This scattered streaming strategy seems absurd, as it needs to make more sense and is likely to reduce viewership while increasing the chances of piracy. Despite all of them having associations with Reliance Entertainment, the deals with various streaming platforms are worth questioning.
In comparison, the Spy Universe doesn’t share a similar problem, as all of its content is streaming on Prime Video, building a proper symphony.
