Shogun star Moeka Hoshi, best known for her portrayal of Fuji, has teased an exciting Season 2 for fans. However, the actress is unsure about reprising her character in the upcoming season. FX renewed the acclaimed show for two more seasons in May. Created by Justin Marks and Rachel Kondo, Shogun is inspired by James Clavell’s 1975 novel.
Speaking with ScreenRant, Hoshi discussed Fuji’s fate in Shogun. The actor was unable to provide any clarity regarding her return in Seasons 2 and 3 in her interview, but she did promise that the upcoming seasons would be exciting. This is what she said:
“I have no idea what the plan is, but in Justin and Rachel I trust, and I believe they will come up with another exciting season. Honestly, it’s less about myself and Fuji. Just as another fellow fan of Shogun, I’m looking forward to what comes out for Season 2 and Season 3.”
In the first season, Moeka Hoshi’s portrayal of Fuji delivered one of the most heartwarming character arcs. Through devastating losses, including her child and husband, Fuji persevered, ultimately earning her freedom from Toranaga. Unlike many characters on the show, her arc culminated in a satisfying conclusion, offering her the chance to pursue a peaceful life as a nun.
Given how Fuji’s journey culminated in Season 1, it is unlikely that viewers will see her in the forthcoming seasons. Bringing her back could mess up this well-earned closure. Though, she may appear in Season 2 via a cameo appearance. Ultimately, viewers will have to wait and see what the creators have planned.
FX has not yet revealed the release window for Shogun Season 2. Stay tuned for more updates. Indian viewers can watch the first season on Disney+ Hotstar.
