Netflix dropped a period drama series called Bridgerton on Christmas worldwide. The web-series was developed by American author Chris Van Dusen and produced by the brilliant Shonda Rhimes. The period piece is set in the early 19th century and is based on the novel series of the same name by Julia Quinn. As expected from Shondaland productions, the series has caused quite a buzz among watchers and twitter has been… well “twittering”.
As reported by multiple media news outlets, Shonda Rhimes signed a multi-year deal worth USD 100 million with Netflix to produce (and create) television series for them. We do not know if this is true or not (since Netflix has been poaching brilliant filmmakers and throwing money at them, we will not be surprised if this fact is actually true), but Netflix has already reaped the rewards of having Shonda on board with Bridgerton. The new period series have already got tons of new fans and twitter has been buzzing since its release on the 25th of December.
The drama web series is centered around the Bridgerton family which consists of the Lady Bridgerton, her four sons – Anthony, Benedict, Colin and Gregory and her four daughters – Daphne, Eloise, Francesca and Hyacinth. The series follows the eight young siblings as they navigate the world around them and find love. Meanwhile multiple scandalous newsletters written by the anonymous Lady Whistledown are causing havoc in the upper echelons of British society.
Netflix’s new epic “Regenc-era” drama series would not have come forth had Shonda not been on board. Shonda had called the novel series – sexy, hot and interesting and when she contacted Quinn’s agents for the rights to the books, the author immediately said yes. And the rest… is on Netflix.
Bridgerton is currently streaming on Netflix worldwide. Check out the hilarious twitter buzz down below:
