Though Indian audiences have been exposed to action films, Kill offers the blood and violence that has been missing in the subcontinent. Even before its release, Lakshya’s film got the green light for a Hollywood remake.
Amid this jolly news, there is a big question: Should Lionsgate hold the release of the original film?
The answer should be yes. The studios should postpone the release of the original version of Kill as it will be better for business. If the audience gets a taste of the original film, it will not do justice to the remake.
For example, Vikram Vedha faced a similar fate. Despite the Hindi version having good quality, fans had already seen the original, leading to a slow and failed box-office run for the Hindi version.
The USA market contributes massively to Indian films, with a significant chunk of the audience coming from that side of the world. So, if Kill gets released in the USA, it could hamper the upcoming remake by Lionsgate.
The remake is destined to get some limelight. The Chad Stahelski and Lionsgate partnership will hype up the USA fans anyway. If they want the remake to be successful, they need to take a big hit in terms of releasing the original version of Kill.
However, as the film has already been released in the US market, it is certified fresh with a 91% rating on Rotten Tomatoes, and the audience is loving it. Hopefully, they don’t abandon the remake because the original got released.
