When Kabir Khan’s spy actioner ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ released back in the year 2012, who thought the film would not only become such a big theatrical hit but also be the starting point of a blockbuster action franchise!
Until now, five films have been released under the YRF spy verse and the latest being ‘Tiger 3’. Although together, they have grossed more than a whopping Rs.2800 crores at the box-office, ‘Tiger 3’ didn’t perform in theatres as expected. Especially considering how Salman Khan’s cameo was so much loved in ‘Pathaan’.
The curiosity factor and the buzz around the much talked about two-hero movie ‘Tiger Vs Pathaan’ is getting hotter by the day. Many film enthusiasts on social media are saying that the film starring Salman Khan and Shah Rukh Khan has been shelved while some others are saying that it has been delayed. The grapevine is abuzz with myriad speculations.
We are not here to talk about whether ‘Tiger Vs Pathaan’ ‘will’ get made in the first place or not. Rather, we want to discuss whether the film ‘should’ or ‘should not’ get made at all!
From a commercial perspective, it’s needless to say that both SRK and Salman Khan have massive fan followings. So, fans would definitely want the duo to share screen space again.
Besides the YRF Spy Universe, the two actors had previously featured in Rakesh Roshan’s reincarnation action drama ‘Karan Arjun’ and later in the romantic film ‘Hum Tumhare Hain Sanam’ besides multiple cameos like ‘Kuch Kuch Hota Hai’, etc.
But in present times, the cost of hiring these two superstars would be astounding, but the stakeholders are obviously aware of this. The cost-benefit effect can be ascertained to some extent with Ayan Mukerji’s ‘War 2’ which features Hrithik Roshan and Jr. NTR in the lead role, but that’s slated to be released next year.
Earlier, it was reported that ‘Pathaan’ helmer Siddharth Anand was roped in to direct the big-ticket two-hero venture. However, we are playing devil’s advocate here because we don’t want that to happen if ‘Tiger Vs Pathaan’ officially kicks-off.
You must be wondering why we don’t want a filmmaker who has consistently delivered big hits for YRF, to be given the directorial mantle for ‘Tiger Vs Pathaan’. Despite the fact that it might make good business sense.
That’s because we want ‘Tiger Vs Pathaan’ to have the heart and soul of ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ and the production values even better than that of ‘Pathaan’ and ‘Tiger 3’. But for that to happen, the core creative team of the parent film should be brought back. Which means Kabir Khan, the parent film’s helmer, should be given the directorial responsibilities once again. Moreover, the screenplay writers of ‘Ek Tha Tiger’ Kabir Khan and Neelesh Misra should also be brought back for ‘Tiger Vs Pathaan’.
We’re not 100% sure if ‘Tiger Vs Pathaan’ will move forward very soon but we strongly feel that it ‘should’ get made. But with the above-mentioned changes, which sadly seems to be a far-cry. What do you think? Should Siddharth Anand or Kabir Khan direct ‘Tiger Vs Pathaan’ or some other filmmaker?
