The third season of the much-anticipated ALTBalaji’s web series ‘Broken But Beautiful’ featuring the multi-talented performer Sidharth Shukla alongside Sonia Rathee is all set for its digital premiere this weekend. The first two seasons of the show had made quite an impact. So, to say that the curiosity quotient around the show’s release is massive, would be an understatement. Especially after the addition of the immensely popular star Sidharth Shukla.
The official trailer for ‘Broken But Beautiful 3’ was unveiled by the makers around a week ago (which reached more than a whopping 20 lakh views). Besides the charismatic screen presence of the ‘Bigg Boss 13’ winner Sidharth Shukla and the sizzling chemistry between the show’s lead pair, another interesting detail attracted our attention.
From the show’s trailer, it looked like the protagonist Sidharth Shukla’s character is that of a theatre/play director while Sonia Rathee is ostensibly playing the role of a scriptwriter within the show. And the show apparently encompasses falling in and out of love, broken hearts, and is essentially an interesting take on modern love. A theme which was also beautifully executed in the 1997 Yash Chopra’s directorial ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, which featured none other than the superstar Shah Rukh Khan.
In the musical romance film, Shah Rukh Khan adeptly essayed the role of a Director of dance-based musical plays. The love quadrangle also featured accomplished actresses Madhuri Dixit and Karishma Kapoor besides having Akshay Kumar in a special role. In the film, Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit’s characters were shown be to working together, as the play’s Director and Actress/Dancer respectively, to fulfill the protagonist’s desire to direct a musical play called ‘Maya’.
Almost analogously, in the upcoming season of ‘Broken But Beautiful’, Sidharth Shukla’s character is that of a director who apparently gets romantically involved with his colleague (Sonia Rathee’s character). Besides, the competent actor that Sidharth Shukla is, the way he has portrayed a range of emotions (from romantic to charming to intense), is beautifully evident in the show’s trailer and its songs.
In ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ and apparently in ‘Broken But Beautiful 3’, sparks fly initially but things eventually become complicated because of certain reasons. In ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’, the film’s finale coincided with the musical play’s climactic performance, which proves to be the venue for the happy union of the two lovers (Shah Rukh Khan and Madhuri Dixit’s characters), previously separated by circumstances.
Now whether ‘Broken But Beautiful 3’ would give us a happy ending like the film, or whether Sidharth Shukla’s character would go on a self-destruction mode to give us an anti-climax, is a mystery that remains to be revealed this weekend.
Coming back to the show, which also has music as an important element, the recently released soundtracks ‘Mere Liye’ (more than 4 lakh views) and ‘Tere Naal’ (almost 3 lakh views), which are penned and sung by Akhil Sachdeva, beautifully capture the underlying premise and the lead pair’s chemistry in ‘Broken But Beautiful 3’. It seems like the show’s musical track has blockbuster written all over it.
There was no other apparent similarity between ‘Broken But Beautiful 3’ and ‘Dil To Pagal Hai’ that we could detect between these two otherwise disparate projects.
‘Broken But Beautiful 3’ is scheduled to start streaming on the ALTBalaji streaming platform from Saturday, May 29, 2021, onwards.
