British filmmaker Simon West, who made his directorial debut in the explosive actioner ‘Con Air’ starring Nicolas Cage is set to join hands with Spanish actor Alvaro Morte for Amazon’s adventure television series ‘Boundless’. Alvaro Morte is best known for playing the revered character ‘The Professor’ in the celebrated heist drama ‘Money Heist’.
Moreover, Brazilian actor Rodrigo Santoro, who was recently seen in the HBO science fiction series ‘Westworld’, has also been roped in for the upcoming explorer series ‘Boundless’.
Set in the 1500s, the series will reportedly consist of four episodes of sixty minutes each. It will revolve around the Spanish explorer Juan Sebastián Elcano (to be played by Alvaro Morte) and Portuguese explorer Ferdinand Magellan’s (to be played by Rodrigo Santoro) first circumnavigation around the world. Unfortunately, only one of them returned alive.
The joint Magellan-Elcano expedition sailed from Seville, Spain in 1519 and returned in 1522, after crossing the Atlantic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, and the Indian Ocean.
Since their epic voyage proved that the world was round, the series will bound to be an enlightening and entertaining watching experience, owing to its tremendous geographical and historical significance. The filming of the ambitious Amazon series is reportedly set to commence soon.
Director Simon West, an action-adventure film expert, who had previously helmed hit films including Angelina Jolie’s ‘Lara Croft: Tomb Raider’, Jason Statham’s ‘The Mechanic’ and Sylvester Stallone’s ‘The Expendables 2’, is all set to captain the ship- voyage drama.
For the sake of authenticity, two of the original ships namely ‘Victoria’ and ‘Trinidad’ will be rebuilt to scale in order to re-enact the historical voyage. Further, a replica of the ship ‘Nao Victoria’ will be used for the series. Incidentally, ‘Nao Victoria’ was the only ship from the expedition that returned to port and hence eventually became the first ever ship to circumnavigate the world.
The epic television series ‘Boundless’ is being slated for an exclusive launch on Prime Video in Spain, France, Italy, Portugal, Latin America, Netherlands, The UK, US and Andorra. However, the show’s expected release details are not known yet.
