Diwali season has once again kicked the box office with the arrival of Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 on 1st November, 2024. Kartik Aaryan’s sinister comedy and Ajay Devgn’s explosive police drama has attracted people to the theatres once again and brought smiles and glee in the air. However, a new buzz is emerging with the release of Suriya’s Kanguva on 14th November. But will this South Indian epic stand any chances against the Bollywood big-guns?
Singham again has entered into a ₹250 crore boxoffice since its release and, so far, has grossed over ₹180 crore within the first week of the movie’s release for Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3. All about action sequences, followed by the ensemble cast bringing in the fans to watch Singham Again, while much-beautifully loved characters come together on screen for the much-talked combo of both humor and horror in Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3, which might get subdued as Kanguva-Suriya’s fantasy action extravaganza enters into theatres.
Action, glamour, and a bit of both-Singham Again adds to the Rohit Shetty universe of cop franchise while Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 moves on in the history of serving humor and horror ala carte. Kanguva promises something else-a stunning story against awe-inspiring visuals. Kanguva hopes to ride on the same momentum as South Indian films RRR and Pushpa during their successful run which was greeted pan-Indian.
Though Singham Again and Bhool Bhulaiyaa 3 are now back in the driving seat, Kanguva may still have an opportunity riding on shifts in audience tastes. South Indian big budget films do look appealing because of their scope, narratives, and originality. Kanguva’s first outing might be another milestone in a new shift towards box office dynamics as viewers, especially young ones, go beyond Bollywood’s usual fare.
Kanguva’s impending release may yet prove to be some stiff competition for the blockbusters of Bollywood. Viewers who are looking for something greater and more innovative, Suriya’s movie might be what they are looking for if it manages to be as promised-a visual spectacular. Whether Hindi viewers will continue watching Bollywood or come to investigate the growing appeal of South Indian cinema will only clear in the last couple of weeks in November.
