Some movies are total flops in theatres. But surprisingly, the same movies become cult films upon release on streaming. Tamasha, Tumbbad, Sonchiriya, Mukkabaaz are a few that come to mind.
And then there are those movies that are a hit in the theatres, but receive only average appreciation when they release on OTT.
If you’ve still not got it, we’re talking about the latest hit film from the South – Sita Ramam.
Ever since it released in theatres, Dulquer Salmaan’s Sita Ramam has received accolades and appreciation from every quarter – critics, audiences and industry folks. Audiences have praised its picture-perfect cinematography, poetic dialogues, captivating performances – the praises just keep coming in.
Cut to this week, when Sita Ramam had its digital release on Prime Video. And guess what? While most viewers have appreciated Sita Ramam on OTT, a huge number of OTT viewers have also panned Sita Ramam. Their main grouse – it is too slow, boring first half, predictable, average to above average and what not.
Just proves that what works in the theatres may not work on OTT.
Or is it that Sita Ramam was hyped so much upon its theatrical release that the expectations of OTT viewers for the film went over the roof. And Sita Ramam clearly didn’t meet the sky high expectations.
Check out some interesting tweets from Twitter users who are not so enamoured by Sita Ramam –
Why are people hyping #SitaRamam too much? It’s just a decent average movie with lots of loopholes including some overacting by supporting cast

#SitaRamam it’s absolute visual treat with so many beautiful frames, locations are great and I love ‘em onscreen.
For me, first half was okish and funny scenes weren’t funny at all. 2nd half was more engaging.
They could have removed few unwanted scenes which doesn’t impact story pic.twitter.com/yPZneNJPak— Sagi➳ (@whozDbosslady) September 13, 2022

#SitaRamam turned out to be a much better film than I thought it would be. If you can sit through some of the testing parts of the first half, you'll be rewarded with an enjoyable second half.
