There are so many film production companies in India. It’s a very difficult task for all of us to remember those. Everyone knows Yash Raj Films, Dharma Productions, and Red Chillies when they hear it. Perhaps because they only do commercial films, the audience understands these companies quickly. Perhaps not many people have heard about a production company called Drishyam Films because their films are not very commercial and timeless. But if I show a few movies that they made, everyone will remember them.
Massan, Ankoh Dekh, Kaamyabh, Kadwi Hawa, and Lovel Hostel are all produced by Drishyam Films. Not only this, the film Newton, which was India’s official Oscar entry for best foreign feature film in 2017, was also released by this company. The latest film coming out of their team is Siya, which is releasing on September 16. Siya is the first directorial venture of Manish Mundra, who has been working as a producer for Drishyam Films for a long time.
Siya is a gripping story of a woman who chooses to battle for equity, even when society doesn’t empower her to make a move. The trailer gives a glimpse of the basic plot: a woman is sexually assaulted by the goons of a resilient man, and she chooses to battle the framework to get equity for herself. Siya stars debutante Pooja Pandey as the rape survivor, and Vineet Kumar plays the role of a lawyer who helps Siya in her fighting journey. Director Manish Mundra says, “Drishyam Films has always backed cinema that has a notable talking point and sends a message to filmgoers, and SIYA too will follow suit. We hope that the audience will understand the relevance of our film and will speak out about the same.
Siya, directed by Manish Mundra, will be released nationwide on the 16th of September 2022.
