‘Society of the Snow’, which is Spain’s official Oscar entry for the ‘Best International Feature Film’ category, recently started streaming on the Netflix OTT platform. And after just eleven days of its Netflix premiere, the hard-hitting survival drama has already made its way to the Top 10 most popular Non-English Films list on Netflix.
‘Society of the Snow’ currently boasts of an impressive 51 million views and more than 124 million viewing hours as per the Netflix top ten list. The top-ranked title on the non-English language top ten list is the Norwegian monster movie ‘Troll’ followed by the Spanish survival thriller ‘Nowhere’ and another Spanish film – the 2019 sci-fi horror flick ‘The Platform’.
However, it is pertinent to mention that the other titles on the non-English language top ten list are based on 91-day viewing figures. On the other hand, ‘Society of the Snow’ has been there on Netflix for just eleven days. So, there is still a lot of time for the 2024 Oscar contender to catch up and it has a good chance to finally settle somewhere among the top three titles, or who knows, even the No.1 spot, on the said Netflix list.
‘Society of the Snow’ narrates the incredible tale of the survivors of the 1972 plane crash which happened in the Andes while transporting a Rugby team to Chile. How these passengers hoped against all odds and fought for their lives while navigating their way back home, forms the film’s crux. But in order to survive, they must withstand an extremely hostile environment and take some difficult decisions to stay alive. The must-watch film is ‘Certified Fresh’ and currently holds an impressive 90% critics’ score on reviews aggregation website Rotten Tomatoes.
