A24 has dropped the official trailer of Sofia Coppola’s upcoming biopic, Priscilla. The film will focus on the love story between Priscilla Presley and Elvis Presley from the former’s point of view, becoming different from Baz Luhrmann’s feature adaptation of the life of “King of Rock and Roll”, Elvis (2022).
Elvis Presley played an important role in popularising rock and roll in America, blending elements of genres such as gospel, blues, country, and more. His music style and energetic performance often garnered enormous attention from the media, which were seen as rebellious and provocative for the time. However, his struggles with prescription drugs and fear of isolation led him to his untimely demise at the age of 42.
Cailee Spaeny plays the titular character in the forthcoming Sofia Coppola directional. The film will explore how Priscilla met Elvis and how their romance grew. HBO’s Euphoria fame, Jacob Elordi, will portray the King in the film.
The interest in Elvis Presley’s shiny but controversial life peaked significantly after the release of Elvis (2022). The film collected over $288 million globally and helped Austin Butler earn a Best Actor nomination at this year’s Academy Awards. It will be interesting to see how Elordi manages to step in the shoes of Elvis Presley.
Sofia Coppola’s last directional project was On the Rocks, which came out on the Apple TV+ streaming platform nearly three years ago.
Helmed by Sofia Coppola, Priscilla stars Cailee Spaeny, Jacob Elordi, Dagmara Dominczyk, Raine Monroe Boland, Emily Mitchell, and more. A24 will release the film in October this year. Stay tuned for more updates.
