For some odd reason, Sony Liv has been failing miserably in producing or acquiring winning content that has what it takes to enthrall the Telugu OTT audience. The fact that the OTT platform doesn’t have a single noteworthy film or web series in its Telugu OTT library speaks volumes about the same. Sony Liv was hopeful of getting close to the Telugu audience with films like Aakashavaani and Family Drama but neither of these films could actually impress the native audience.
Now, Sony Liv appears to have added another dud to its Telugu OTT library. Sony Liv’s latest acquisition, Skylab, a comedy drama featuring Satya Dev, Nithya Menen, and Rahul Ramakrishna in the lead roles has garnered largely negative reviews. The film hit the silver screens on the 4th of December and it failed to even catch the attention of the Telugu audience. The film registered strictly minimal advance ticket bookings even on its opening day. A clash with Balakrishna’s Akhanda, which released on 2nd December and is setting the box office on fire most certainly didn’t help Skylab’s cause.
The slow-paced narration and the seemingly lengthy run-time, and the tiring narrative are said to be the drawbacks of the Vishvak Khanderao directorial. Now that the film’s box office returns aren’t all that promising, we can expect it to land on Sony Liv in around 4 weeks from now. But the lack of ‘star’ value might not garner the film much attention ahead of its OTT premieres. As it appears, Sony Liv has another disappointing project in the pipeline now.
