Like April 2024, SonyLIV dropped only two shows in May this year: “Undekhi: Season 3” and “Lampan”. While the former entry did not turn out as engrossing as its previous seasons, “Lampan” did manage to win viewers’ hearts.
Harsh Chhaya carried “Undekhi: Season 3” as the cuss-mouthed, alcoholic, and unhinged patriarch Surinder Singh Atwal, best known as Papaji. Surya Sharma did one hell of a job as Rinku too. In Season 3, viewers also witnessed the character’s emotional side, which was not explored properly in previous seasons. The rest of the show’s cast did well too. However, Season 3’s biggest weakness is its slow pace, which may bore many viewers.
Taking inspiration from the stories of Prakash Narayan Sant, the Marathi series Lampan is simple, nostalgic, and engaging. The story revolves around a small boy who is sent to live with his grandparents in a village. However, Lampan wants to return to Pune. Over time, he learns some important life lessons. This six-part Marathi drama series is highly entertaining for families.
SonyLIV stepped up their game in May compared to April. Even though they only released two new shows, both “Undekhi: Season 3” and “Lampan” were much stronger than what they offered in April with “Adrishyam” and “Family Aaj Kal.” While these two new shows were hits with viewers, SonyLIV would benefit from adding more content, especially regional shows, to keep growing their audience in India. Stay tuned for more updates.
