Much like the month of October, November was also a meddling month for SonyLIV. The platform has however tried to regain its lost ground in regional language originals, be it shows or movies. SonyLIV’s original releases in the month of November include Meet Cute, Anal Mele Pani Thuli, Kaiyum Kalavum, Tanaav, Wonder Women and Girls Hostel Season 3.0. Out of the six titles, only two titles are in Hindi Language. It should also be noted that the streamer hasn’t had any licensed title release in the month of November.
We have compiled a list of the popular Indian titles (including originals and licensed titles) which were released on SonyLIV in the month of November along with their ‘Hit’ or ‘Miss’ status. ‘Hit’ implies good title acquisition while ‘Miss’ signifies not-so-good title acquisition.
Meet Cute (Film, Direct-to-OTT) – Miss
Girls Hostel Season 3 (Series, Direct-to-OTT) – Miss
Anal Mele Pani Thuli (Film, Direct-to-OTT) – Hit
Tanaav (Series, Direct-to-OTT) – Hit
Kaiyum Kalavum (Series, Direct-to-OTT) – Hit
Wonder Women (Film, Direct-to-OTT) – Miss
As the data above shows, November Month performance was average for SonyLIV, a platform that has been pioneering quality originals usually. While the much hyped Anjali Menon Directorial ‘Wonder Women’ was panned by its target audience, ‘Anal Mele Pani Thuli’ quickly became a surprise package. The film dropped by without big-shot names and promotional baggage, but still did well for itself viewership wise. It also helps that the film is actually good enough with a compelling lead performance. Meet Cute was also a meddling film with not much positive or negative hype around it.
On the web-series front, Girls Hostel Season 3 was a very disappointing affair. The show got mixed and negative reception for its writing, thereby disappointing their loyal audience too. On the other hand Tanaav and Kaiyum Kalavum did really well. While Tanaav was a well done reimagination of Fauda, Kaiyum Kalavum turned out to be an interesting dark comedy.
SonyLIV had one original film and two original series that performed well and two original films and an original film that faltered. Overall, there were three ‘Hits’ and three ‘Misses’ for SonyLIV in the month of November.
SonyLIV November Success Score = 50%
