The month of October wasn’t eventful for SonyLIV. The platform has a proven success ratio when it comes to regional language originals and licensed films since the last two years on an average, yet the performance has been very poor in the month of October. The platform had an original release in ‘Eesho’, Appan and ‘Good Bad Girl’ besides acquired titles like ‘Oke Oka Jeevitham’/’Kanam’ and ‘Cobra’.

As the data above shows, October month was beyond underwhelming for SonyLIV, a platform that has been pioneering quality originals usually.
While Malayalam film ‘Eesho’ was panned by its target audience, ‘Appan’ quickly became a darling. The film dropped by without big-shot names and promotional baggage, but still did well for itself creatively and viewership wise too. It also helps that the film is actually good enough as a crime drama.
On the web-series front, Good Bad Girl was a very disappointing affair. The show got badly panned for its writing and performances, thereby not even finding a loyal audience.
Coming to licensed films, Oke Oka Jeevitham/Kanam was very warmly received. The film was already coming with an added advantage of positive theatre reception and that helped. Even dubbed versions of the film in Malayalam and Kannada found a loyal audience. On the other hand, Vikram’s Cobra was badly received on SonyLIV. All thanks to the film being below mediocre and its box-office disaster badge.
SonyLIV had one licensed film and one Direct-to-OTT film doing well for itself in the month of October and 3 huge duds. Overall, there were two ‘Hits’ and 3 ‘Misses’ for SonyLIV in the month of October.
