SonyLIV September 2023 Report: A Feast For Streamers!

Hey, guys! We are back with our monthly reports! Overall, September 2023 turned out to be a great month for SonyLIV in terms of content. The Indian streaming giant bestowed two original shows, one licensed show, and three licensed movies last month. All entries were entertaining and worth watching, except Journey of Love 18+, a film by director Arun D. Jose.

Scam 2003: The Telgi Story (Series/Original) – Hit

Streaming Date: September 1

Scam 2003 was undoubtedly one of the most anticipated shows of 2023. This Hansal Mehta project had all the hype in the world, thanks to the record-shattering success and brilliance of its predecessor, Scam 1992. However, it was not as majestic as the Pratik Gandhi starrer. The series received some criticism for its inconsistent pace. But we have Gagan Dev Riar, who beautifully neutralises the show’s flaws with his scintillating performance as Abdul Karim Telgi. His outstanding take on the protagonist, along with his infectious smile, keeps us hooked to our screens. A worthy entry to the Scam franchise but not better than its predecessor.

Lokkhi Chele (Film/Licensed) – Hit

Streaming Date: September 8

This Kaushik Ganguly masterpiece received critical acclaim upon its release. It revolves around a trio of young doctors: Shibnath Dutta (Purab Seal Acharya), Amir Hussain (Ujaan Ganguly), and Gayatri Chatterjee (Ritwika Pal) who stand tall against all sorts of superstitions and dogmas in village areas and show resilience while trying to bring change in the mindset of villagers. Apart from its screenplay, the film received acclaim for its cinematography and performances.

Ten Pound Poms (Series/Licensed) – Hit

Streaming Date: September 8

Ten Pound Poms turned out to be an unexpected hit from BBC One. Its pilot lured over 4.6 million viewers. This historical drama explores the lives of some British citizens who migrated to Australia after the end of the Second World War. It consists of talented performers like Michelle Keegan, Faye Marsay, Warren Brown, Stephen Curry, and more.

Journey of Love 18+ (Film/Licensed) – Miss

Streaming Date: September 15

This Naslen K. Gafoor starrer fails to soar high despite having an intriguing premise. It tells the love story of Athira (Meenakshi Dinesh) and Akhil (Gafoor). Things get hard for them after they get eloped. Many critics pointed out the lack of chemistry between the lead pair and the film’s narrative losing momentum during the final act. Though, it has some heartwarming moments. But they are not enough to save this mediocre effort from helmer Arun D. Jose.

Charlie Chopra & The Mystery Of Solang Valley (Series/Original) – Hit

Streaming Date: September 27

This Vishal Bhardwaj project is another fine addition to his iconic filmography. He tries his hard to give this series a ‘desi’ feel and succeeds, considering its source material, Agatha Christie’s The Sittaford Mystery, which is unabashedly British. Things turn upside down for Charlie (Wamiqa Gabbi) when her timid and quiet fiance emerges as the prime suspect of his uncle’s murder. This forces the protagonist to solve the murder, which leads her to unearth many buried secrets of Solang Valley.

Adiyae (Film/Licensed) – Hit

Streaming Date: September 29

Adiyae mostly bagged positive reviews from critics, with praise directed at its screenplay, narration, and the cast’s performances, particularly Venkat Prabhu, Gouri G. Kishan, and G. V. Prakash Kumar’s. Vignesh Karthick has directed and written this entertaining flick. The film serves as a love story with a brilliant fusion of the concept of parallel universes.
