SonyLIV’s highest budget original drama series claimed till date ‘Freedom at Midnight’ has added three new cast members set to play key roles in the epic political thriller.
RJ Malishka has been roped in to play Indian liberation activist Sarojini Naidu who was a poet and also served as the first Governor of United Provinces, after India’s independence. She was the first woman to be appointed as the president of the Indian National Congress and governor of a state.
Next addition to ‘Freedom at Midnight’ is Rajesh Kumar who will portray the role of Liaquat Ali Khan, an associate of Muhammad Ali Jinnah and partition negotiation leader. Then there’s KC Shankar playing the role of V. P. Menon, a constitutional adviser who played a critical role in integrating princely states into India.
The above will be joining the recently announced Arif Zakari who will play Muhammad Ali Jinnah’s role and Ira Dubey who will be his sister Fatima Jinnah in ‘Freedom at Midnight’. Other major cast members include Chirag Vohra, Sidhant Gupta, Rajendra Chawla, Cordelia Bugeja, Richard Teverson, Luke McGibney, Andrew Cullum and Alistair Findlay.
Freedom At Midnight’ is based on a book by Dominique Lapierre and Larry Collins and is set in 1947, the year India got independence but also suffered from partition. ‘Freedom At Midnight’ story is being adapted by a team of writers including Abhinandan Gupta, Adwitiya Kareng Das, Gundeep Kaur, Divya Nidhi Sharma, Revanta Sarabhai and Ethan Taylor.
‘Freedom At Midnight’ is being created by SonyLIV’s sister firm StudioNEXT in association with Emmay Entertainment’s Monisha Advani, Madhu Bhojwani and Nikkhil Advani who are also serving as producers for the show. Nikkhil Advani, the creator of ‘Rocket Boys’ will serve as the showrunner.
