SonyLIV launched the trailer of its new Indian Original series, ‘Jehanabad’. After a considerable while of releasing back to back content from the Southern states of India, SonyLIV is now gearing up to release a Hindi series, ‘Jehanabad’. The series premieres on SonyLIV on 3rd February, 2023.
Going by the trailer, ‘Jehanabad’ is set in the backdrop of the Naxalite movement in the country. It is based on true events, set in the year 2005. The year that the series is set in, along with the events depicted in the trailer give us a hint that the series tells the story of the November 2005 incident in Jehanabad, Bihar, in which 372 prisoners escaped from Jehanabad jail after a Naxalites attack. While last week’s teaser of ‘Jehanabad’ had revealed nothing of the role of Ritwik Bhowmik, co-lead actor in the series, the trailer lays bare the plot clearly.
Ritwik Bhowmik plays university professor Abhimanyu Singh, who falls in love with his student, played by Harshita Gaur. The story of ‘Jehanabad’ centres on a bunch of naxalites tasked with getting their leader Deepak Kumar, played by Parambrata Chattopadhyay, out of jail. The series showcases one of the biggest and most daring jailbreaks in the history of Bihar, and the country, on screen.
Besides Ritwik Bhowmik and Parambrata Chattopadhyay, ‘Jehanabad’ includes stellar actors such as Rajat Kapoor, Satyadeep Mishra, Sunil Singh, Rajesh Jais, Sonal Jha, among others. The series is written and directed by Rajeev Barnwal. Satyanshu Singh is the co-director of ‘Jehanabad’, while Sudhir Mishra is the showrunner of the series.
