SonyLIV has dropped the trailer for its upcoming original series ‘Kankhajura’ and this psychological thriller promises a chilling ride. Helmed by Chandan Arora, ‘Kankhajura’ is the Indian adaptation of Israeli drama ‘Magpie’ and will start streaming only on SonyLIV from 30th May, 2025.
The trailer shows Ashu (Roshan Mathew) who is released from jail after 14 years and is welcomed home by his brother Max (Mohit Raina) who runs a real estate business. While Ashu seems quite fragile on the front with his stutter and meek personality, he has something sinister planned as he goes digging around for information on his brother.
The trailer also reveals how Ashu has had a traumatic past where he as bullied and used by others including his brother and after serving a prison term he isn’t the same old timid boy now. What remains a mystery is why is Ashu doing what he is doing? Is he up to something or just a medium for someone else?
The whole trailer has that eerie feel to it with a lot going on in terms of action, thrill and drama. But there’s also parts that feel predictable probably due to the way the trailer has been cut. Hopefully the thrill thrives in the show because the trailer kind of loses it in between with too much revelations.
‘Kankhajura’ is directed by Chandan Arora and stars Roshan Mathew, Mohit Raina, Sarah Jane Dias, Mahesh Shetty, Ninad Kamat, Trinetra Haldar, Heeba Shah, and Usha Nadkarni.
After successfully adapting two Israeli dramas ‘Your Honor’ and ‘Fauda’, ‘Kankhajura’, based on another Israeli show ‘Magpie’, is SonyLIV’s third such remake from Yes TV, the network behind all these shows.
In Isreal, ‘Magpie’ has had two seasons with 11 and 8 episodes respectively and according to the official synopsis, “After serving 17 years in prison for a murder conviction, Asa Katz receives an early release on the condition that he continues to cooperate with the police as their jailhouse informant. Asa returns to his old neighborhood and to his older brother, David, a successful realtor who made his money in dubious business dealings. Conflicting interests put Asa in precarious situations, and he finds himself torn between his life of crime and his work with the police, all the while skillfully navigating both worlds to his advantage.”
The expectations are high from this one specially since it comes post the successful run of SonyLIV’s latest show ‘Black, White & Gray – Love Kills’. Produced by Ajay Rai’s Jar Picutres, ‘Kankhajura’ will premiere exclusively on SonyLIV on 30th May, 2025.
