Sudhir Mishra’s action thriller series ‘Tanaav’ premiered on the SonyLIV OTT platform earlier this month. The show has received decent feedback from audiences and critics and is being recommended particularly for those who have not seen the parent Israeli series ‘Fauda’, whose three seasons are streaming in India on Netflix.
However, despite the good word of mouth and encouraging reviews so far for the Indian adaptation ‘Tanaav’, one thing that has irked Indian OTT audiences is the show’s release strategy on SonyLIV.
Out of the total of twelve episodes of ‘Tanaav Season-1’, the first six episodes dropped on SonyLIV on 11th November. Thereafter, Episodes 7 & 8 were released a week later, on 18th November. While the final four episodes of the show are yet to be aired on SonyLIV on 25th November.
This waiting game for SonyLIV’s ‘Tanaav’ is not working well with a segment of viewers. Some of the audiences have expressed their displeasure related to the show’s weekly release strategy, considering the show’s intense drama genre (and as the title also suggests).
Releasing one episode per week is a deal breaker for me. I'll wait for all the episodes to be available.

Bahut galat kaam kiya @SonyLIV why hold last episodes of #Tanaav? Ruined the Tanaav of the show. (Now I'll just re-watch Fauda)

Started watching #Tanaav by @SonyLIV. Binge watched 5 episodes. Waited every Friday, for two weeks, for Episode 6 & 7 to drop. Gave up. Re-Binge-watched #Fauda. Loved Fauda all over again.
Intense dramas are not 'episode-dropped'. They're 'season-dropped'.#BigFail by #SonyLIV

On the other hand, there also exists another school of thought which might think that it’s okay for a show like ‘Tanaav’ to adopt similar weekly episode release strategy akin to Marvel shows streaming on Disney+ and other Indian series like ‘Criminal Justice: Adhura Sach’ on the Disney+ Hotstar streaming platform. What do you prefer? Airing all episodes for a show like ‘Tanaav’ at once, or the weekly release strategy?
Helmed by veteran filmmaker Sudhir Mishra and co-directed by Sachin Mamta Krishn, the 12-part socio-political action-drama series ‘Tanaav’ is a remake of the acclaimed Israeli show ‘Fauda’. Set amidst the backdrop of Kashmir in the year 2017, the series revolves around a Special Ops Unit and their desperate efforts to catch an elusive and dangerous man and to thwart planned attacks in the beautiful valley. It features Manav Vij, Rajat Kapoor, Arbaaz Khan, and Shashank Arora, amongst other cast members.
