SonyLIV has just dropped a riveting trailer for its upcoming series ‘The Whistleblower‘. The streaming platform hasn’t revealed the release date of the show, with just a ‘coming soon’ implying that the Diwali weekend could be a possible release time for the show. Going by the trailer, it’s obvious that the story is an adaptation of the devious Vyapam Scam that gripped much of Northern India in its tentacles.
For the uninitiated, the Vyapam Scam was a horrific scam that rigged medical entrance exams and medical college admissions in North and Central India. Massive money was involved in the scam, as were several influential politicians and public servants. Investigations into the scam turned sinister when they led to more than 50 unexplained deaths of real-life witnesses and whistleblowers, a spine-chilling figure by any means.
The trailer of ‘The Whistleblower’ is as riveting as the real-life events it is based on. The one element that really stands out in the trailer is the utter transformation of its lead actor, Ritwik Bhowmikk. The actor is virtually unrecognisable. One will be unable to connect this simmering, raging character in ‘The Whistleblower’ with the shy, mild-mannered singer in ‘Bandish Bandits’.
‘The Whistleblower’ will mark the OTT debut of winsome actress Sonali Kulkarni. The rest of the cast is equally impressive. Ridhi Kakkar, Ankita Sharma, Hemant Kher, Sachin Khedekar, Ravi Kishan, Ashish Verma, Zakir Hussain, among others. The series is directed by Manoj Pillai.
Going by the trailer, SonyLIV seems to have a sure-shot winner on its hands. A show or movie on the Vyapam Scam was long overdue, and in the safe hands of SonyLIV, it will be a must-watch.
