“Freedom at Midnight” is a very important book on the topic of the partition struggle. Written by Larry Collins and Dominique Lapierre, it talks about the events and situations during the last days of the British era. Recently, SonyLIV announced a series based on it, and seeing the developments, it seems quite promising.
SonyLIV is known for producing shows that leave a mark on viewers, giving us masterpieces like “Scam 1992” and “Rocket Boys”. The platform has built a good reputation, and this series, titled the same as the novel, seems like one of those that will be remembered for years to come.
The reasons are not very unique, but the sheer commitment that has gone into finishing the looks of two of its main characters, Muhammad Ali Jinnah, the pioneer of Pakistan, and his sister Fatima, who lend a great support to Jinnah. The makeup and prosthetics of these characters are so good that it’s very difficult to differentiate between the real faces and the characters. The actors playing these roles are Arif Zakaria and Ira Dubey. Arif is the same actor who has played more historic roles in shows like Nehru in “Hutatma” (Zee5) and Acharya Kriplani in “Gandhi Godse Ek Yudh”.
Apart from these, the show will also feature important characters from our history books like Mahatma Gandhi, played by Chirag Vohra, Jawaharlal Nehru, played by Siddhant Gupta, and Sardar Patel, played by Rajendra Chawla. Further details about the show are still under the wraps. Stay tuned to Binged for such updates.
