R-rated comedies have always been a hit or miss in the market as finding a good balance is indeed the hardest thing to pull off. Especially when the market has competitions like Wonka and Aquaman, Sony did pull off a wonder with “Anyone But You.”
Featuring Sydney Sweeney and Glen Powell, the story is obviously nothing brand new, but the execution looks a bit better than other existing content.
In terms of the box office, this did manage to come out as a big hit; even right now, it is defeating Wonka on a daily basis. The film debuted on December 22nd, though it did manage to have an okay weekend amidst all big competitions, it is having a late bloom at the box office.
The ratings also mark it as a mediocre film, with a 6.6 on IMDB and 51% on Tomatometer, but the audience is saying otherwise.
For the comfort of the global audience, the film is now reaching the OTT space as it did have a very limited global audience. Obviously, there is no official date, but a strong rumor is running around the internet about the supposed release date of the film.
According to some sources, it will be available as a PVOD model on platforms such as Google, Apple, and Amazon. But, the rumors should be taken with a pinch of salt as the OTT release is just within 32 days of the theatrical release, and besides that, it just started to gain momentum.
Now, a model like this worked for a horror film like “Five Nights At Freddy’s,” but a feel-good rom-com like “Anyone But You” might end its theatrical run and with a disaster.
